Noda Haruko has hatched a plot to get tasty lunches; she's put a love letter in a paper airplane and tossed it out into the world. By chance, it ends up in the hands of a lonely boy named Katou Seiji. Haruko confesses her "love" for him, and her hope that he'll become her husband and make her delicious lunches. Surprisingly, Seiji agrees, and becomes her boyfriend-chef. One day, he runs into his bad-tempered solitary classmate Yozora while she's talking animatedly to her imaginary friend Tomo. Realizing that neither of them have any actual friends, they decide that the best way to alter this situation is to form a club and start recruiting.That is how "Rinjinbu" was formed, a club specifically designed for people who don't have very many friends. As other lonely classmates slowly join their little club, they'll try to learn how to build friendships through cooking together, playing games, and other group activities. A "what if" alternative version of the original story, on which the cast gets acquainted in a different manner.The basic premise is that Kodaka, a rude looking and easily misunderstood transfer student catches a glimpse from a conversation between Sena (the most popular girl on school) and "her friend" Renka (a character from a visual novel); after a short discussion followed, Sena decides to give it a try and make some friends with Kodaka's help.This is a tweak from the original premise, on which Kodaka catches Yozora speaking to her "air friend", and is Yozora the one who decides to start practicing how to make friends with Kodaka's help. Also in the original Sena is not Kodaka's classmate.

The friends include Tobio, a passive high schooler who makes it a rule not to hope too much; Maru, a scheming boy who gossips behind people's back; Isami, a gaudy student who likes girls and recently got a girlfriend with big breasts; and their senior Paisen (slang for senpai, or upperclassman), a 20-year old man who is rich and has long graduated from high school.

One night, Yukinari and his friends witness a falling star hit the ground and rush to the spot where it hit, only to find a child cradled in the meteorite, surrounded by a field of roses?!

She finds a cat scaling the handrail of a bridge, but it accidentally falls off. Miko tries to save it, but instead she falls off herself. When she wakes up, she realizes that she's actually already dead, but the cat had saved her with one of its nine cat lives. Unfortunately, a cat's life only lasts for a year, and Miko needs to figure out a way to get her original life back, as well as a way to somehow find her sister.

The kids agreed happily at first, but soon they began to find the game horrifying, not only because of its realism but also because the first fatality among them happened right after their first victory. Worse yet, they had no idea how to stop or leave the "game."
